Eva Longoria turns her back on the USA: “It will be a scary place”

During the election campaign, Eva Longoria loudly supported Kamala Harris. After the election of Donald Trump, she sees no future for herself in the USA.

In the presidential election campaign, Kamala Harris had almost all of America’s celebrities behind her. From Taylor Swift to Bruce Springsteen – numerous stars spoke out in support of the Democratic candidate. So does “Desperate Housewives” star Eva Longoria. She had worked passionately for the Democrats in recent months. In the end, all the effort achieved little. Donald Trump has been elected president again.

For Longoria, this brings back old memories, as she explains in an interview with “Marie Claire” magazine. “I’ve never been so depressed in my life,” she says of the time after Trump’s election victory in 2016. Eight years later, she feels painful feelings again. But she is not surprised. “The shocking thing is not that he won,” Longoria said. “It’s the fact that a convicted criminal who spreads so much hate can hold the highest office.”

She would like to continue her political involvement, but has ambivalent feelings. “I would like to believe that our fight continues,” Longoria said. But if Trump “fulfills his promises, it will be a scary place,” explains the actress.

“Dystopian country”

Longoria has found a way to navigate the future for herself and her family. She has been living with her husband and their son in Mexico, Spain and only partly in the USA for several years. It is usually professional projects that bring them back to their homeland. She no longer wants to live in the United States, especially after Trump’s victory.

“I am privileged,” says the 49-year-old. “I can escape and go somewhere. Most Americans are not so lucky. They will be stuck in this dystopian country, and my fear and sadness is for them,” Longoria said.

Nevertheless, she sees herself as a patriot who wants to continue to believe in the good in the USA – just with a little geographical distance.
