March on horseback to remember the popular singer Jorge Cafrune, 44 years after his death

Evoking the mythical march “On horseback for my country” that the singer knew how to promote and that the gauchos of the area reissue joining the roads of San Salvador de Jujuy and El Carmen, Tárraga added that it is expected that this year “more than 200 riders”.

The cultural event will take place on Saturday, February 5 from the headquarters of the Asociación Gaucha Éxodo Jujeño, in the provincial capital, where an act with allusive words and the blessing of the riders and their horses is planned, to start at 9 o’clock the March.

After traveling the 25 kilometers that separate the provincial capital from El Carmen, with brief stops for rest and lunch, the troop is expected to arrive in the city after 5 pm, where they will be received at a Monument to Cafrune and then participate in a central act and parade through central streets.

“It is always good to remember Jorge Cafrune and through him pay homage to the deep roots that gauchaje represents. The homeland was made on horseback, more so in our province of Jujuy”, valued the mayor of El Carmen, Alejandro Torres, also referring to the program of activities promoted by the commune, within the framework of a press conference.

As part of the tributes, on the afternoon of this Monday, January 31, the central act will be held in El Carmen to commemorate the day of the 44th. anniversary of the singer’s death.

Cafrune died at the age of 40, the victim of a tragic and at the same time confusing accident, not clarified, that occurred on January 31, 1978, when he was riding on horseback towards Yapeyú (Corrientes). He was run over by a truck and was left lying on the road for too many hours, dying the next day.

“Zamba de mi esperanza” is one of his most popular works, to which are added “Virgen india”, “My captive moon”, “Santafesino de veras”, “Chiquillada”, “I can’t forget you” and “Resolana” .
