When his granddaughter was names, the king initially undertaken a small faux pas. That is the name of the daughter of Sofia and Carl Philip.
The Swedish royal family announced the name of the newborn daughter of Princess Sofia (40) and Prince Carl Philip (45). The little princess is called Ines Marie Lilian Silvia and will in future lead the title of Duchess of Västerbotten.
At the official proclamation at a council meeting in the royal castle in Stockholm, King Carl Gustaf (48) was a small faux pas. His granddaughter “Inse”, corrected himself shortly afterwards and announced the correct name “Ines”.
A palace spokeswoman explained that the king was sorry for the king and stated that the monarch himself had only learned about the names secret until then. The couple’s choice of names follows the royal tradition of honoring family members. While the name Silvia is a tribute to Queen Silvia (81) and thus Carl’s mother, Marie is reminiscent of Princess Sofia’s mother Marie Britt Rotman (67). With the name Lilian, the family of the late Princess Lilian (1915-2013), the aunt of King Carl Philip. The first first name Ines is the Spanish version of the German first name Agnes and originally comes from ancient Greek “Hagnos”, which means “the holy” or “the pure”.
Ines was born on Friday afternoon
As the Swedish royal house in Stockholm announced, the little princess was born on Friday, February 7, 2025, at 1:10 p.m. in the Danderyds Hospital. In the official announcement of the royal family it was said literally: “The office of the Reichsmarschall is pleased that her royal sovereignty Princess Sofia brought a healthy daughter in the Dandelyd hospital at 1:10 p.m. . “
Ines is the fourth child of the royal couple. Three sons already belong to the family: Prince Alexander (8), Prince Gabriel (7) and Prince Julian (3). Sofia and Carl Philip have been married since 2015 – in June they celebrate their tenth wedding day.
