The 97th Oscars are awarded in Hollywood. Moderator Conan O’Brien distributes a number of swipes – and also takes up the controversy for tweets from the “Emilia Pérez” main actress.
Moderator Conan O’Brien (61) distributed to actress Karla Sofía Gascón at the opening of the Oscar Awards. The main actress of the film “Emilia Pérez” had expressed itself in old, now deleted posts on the portal X Islam -hostile and racist – that triggered controversy.
US comedian O’Brien initially joked over several nominated films. In “Anora” the F-word (“fuck”) was used 479 times. “This is three times more than the record that Karla Sofía Gascón’s PR agent set up,” he said. “Karla, if you want to tweet the Oscars, remember: my name is Jimmy Kimmel.” Kimmel had moderated the award ceremony earlier.
The awarding of the Oscars began with a tribute to the city of Los Angeles, in which heavy forest fires had caused devastating damage. O’Brien also joked about “James Bond” and Amazon boss Jeff Bezos and the use of artificial intelligence.
