Drone ban on Basel at the Eurovision Song Contest

Risk of terrorism and protests: Basel is preparing for all eventualities at the major event next week.
During the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) in Basel, no drones are allowed to rise above the city. The ban applies from May 9th to May 18th, as the authorities say. The ESC final will take place on May 17th in the St. Jakobshalle near the German border.
The security forces adapted to all sorts of possible dangers, such as terrorist attacks, cyber attacks or protest actions ongoing, report the authorities and organizations for rescue and security of the cantons of Basel-Stadt and Basel-Landschaft.
However, there is no concrete references to attack plans, the co-overall operations manager Matthias Stähli emphasized, according to the Swiss news agency Keystone-Sda. According to him, applications on demonstrations have not yet been available. Every registration for a rally is checked, there is no ban on protests.
The police were on site with 1,300 emergency services, the authorities said. In addition, representatives of the Federal Office for Cyber Security, for customs and border security and the federal police would come. The army parks 40 specialists. Surveillance cameras will be used in the city.
