Another breakdown in the German vaccination campaign: Due to a security gap, the issuing of corona vaccination certificates in pharmacies has been stopped. The FDP already knows the culprit.
The FDP makes CDU Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn jointly responsible for the nationwide compulsory stop of the issuance of digital vaccination certificates in pharmacies. “We could have saved today’s chaos and a lot of money if the federal government had acted in good time,” said FDP health expert Christine Aschenberg-Dugnus of the “Augsburger Allgemeine”. Despite warnings, Spahn failed to create the conditions for a digital vaccination certificate.
“It would have been associated with less effort for the citizen and also safer if the QR code could have been transmitted directly since the start of the vaccination campaign,” said the FDP politician of the newspaper. “With timely action through the implementation of a digital vaccination pass, as the FDP parliamentary group already demanded in 2019 – long before the pandemic – the entire subsequent effort would not have been necessary,” she added.
Pharmacy portal blocked due to a security gap
On Wednesday, the German Pharmacists’ Association blocked the Internet portal for creating digital vaccination certificates for thousands of pharmacies due to a security gap. According to a report by the “Handelsblatt”, two IT security specialists managed to access the vaccination record portal unnoticed and issue valid certificates.
The association told the Handelsblatt that there was “no evidence of other unauthorized access” until Thursday afternoon. In the Darknet, however, a report by the news portal “Watson” already showed fake vaccination certificates.
According to the “Handelsblatt”, the path for the vaccination certificates via the pharmacies was not originally planned. It was set up at short notice due to the time pressure on the project.
