A journey can make a relationship even more intimate – or really annoy. This shows a survey by elite partner. Accordingly, every fifth is missing the necessary freedom on vacation. Many are also annoyed when the loved one constantly plays on the cell phone, drinks too much alcohol or behaves greedily on the buffet. The OÖN asked the Linz couple therapist Elisabeth Gatt-Iro where the stumbling blocks lie for harmonious holidays-and what you can do about it before departure.
OÖN: You are constantly together on vacation,
Elisabeth Gatt-Iro: The sudden free time together is actually something like a reality check for couples. Because when the to-do lists are omitted, topics that are not processed in everyday life come to light. Or you can tell that you actually have nothing more to say that one of the others gets on the nerves and that the fun is missing – and ultimately often love.
Is it true that most separations take place after the summer vacation?
At least that coincides with my experiences. Autumn is a time of new beginning for many, we still know that from school. When the vacation went bad, some have enough and knock the “hat on it”, so to speak.
What can you do preventively?
Keep expectations of others – and on vacation – low. It becomes aware that both take a few days to get down and not believe: Zack vacation, and suddenly there is only bliss.
That takes out the pressure?
Exactly. It helps to tackle everything a little more relaxed. It is important to discuss what everyone wants before vacation. One may read by the pool, the other cycling. If you make it out beforehand, there are no disappointments – and no argument.
