FAC took the lead in the second division with a 2-1 win over Liefering

The Floridsdorfer defeated FC Liefering 2-1 (2-1) in the lower house matinee of the 21st round on Sunday and thus replaced Austria Lustenau at the top. The Viennese celebrated their seventh league success in a row. In the table, FAC now has a lead of 46 points over Lustenau and six over BW Linz. The “young bulls” from Liefering, who are not eligible for promotion, are fifth with 37 points.

The last league defeat of FAC coach Mitja Mörec’s team was on October 2nd last year, when the Floridsdorfers lost 1-0 at GAK. That didn’t change on Sunday either. FAC presented themselves efficiently and took a 1-0 lead through Marcel Monsberger in the 13th minute. However, Croatia’s U21 team striker Roko Simic equalized for Liefering just two minutes later. Before the break, Joao Oliveira scored the winning goal with his eighth goal of the season (38′) after Salzburg were unable to clear the ball out of their own danger zone.

In the second, uneventful half, the hosts confidently managed the lead and once again underpinned their promotion ambitions. The Floridsdorfers have been undefeated for eleven rounds, with ten wins and one draw. They snatched the lead in the table from Lustenauer, who had been at the top since August. FAC travel to Wacker Innsbruck for the next second division game after the international break on April 1st. At the same time, Lustenau makes a guest appearance at fourth-placed Amstetten (38).
