Lustenau fixes Bundesliga promotion: First congratulations come from Linz

Austria Lustenau in the Bundesliga can only be prevented on the green table – and even then it looks very good after yesterday’s 2-1 lead in Horn and the fall of title rival FAC in Lafnitz (0-1).

Ironically, an ex-Blau-Weiß-Linz kicker put Lustenau on the road to victory: Julian Klar, under contract with Linz from 2018 to 2020 without ever having played for the Stahlstadtklub, scored in his own goal. Curious: The decisive 2:1 for the guests was also achieved through an own goal by Paul Gobara.

The exciting fight for promotion is still not quite fixed: A premature financial end from Wacker Innsbruck could, for example, postpone the title party by a week. If they withdrew during the season, all Innsbruck results would be canceled and counted as a win for the opponent. With one lap to go before the end of the season, leader Lustenau is currently five points ahead of FAC and scored three points against Wacker. The Floridsdorfers only scored one point, so they would only be three points behind if the final whistle was sound.

Blue and white wins 3-0

But that was a minor matter yesterday when the final whistle was whistle: Lustenau celebrated the Oberhaus return after 22 years.

The first congratulations came from Upper Austria: “Lustenau’s title is well deserved. They were the best team and belong in the Bundesliga. I’m especially happy for their coach Markus Mader, whom I know well and respect very much as a person,” says Blau-Weiss Linz coach Gerald Scheiblehner, who was also happy about his team’s victory: Fally Mayulu brought the Linzers to the 3 :0 against Liefering in the 27th minute in the lead, Manuel Maranda (35th) scored the 2:0 just before the break. Paul Mensah got the final score in the finish (87th). Scheiblehner: “We did an excellent job.”

With a 1-1 draw against Kapfenberg, FC Juniors OÖ said goodbye to their home crowd from the second division. Forward Steyr made a spectacular comeback in the 3-2 win in Dornbirn: Coach Daniel Madlener’s team was 1-2 behind by the 86th minute.
