From 5 p.m., SV Ried and LASK will meet in the Josko Arena in the Upper Austria derby. On the one hand, for Rieder it’s about dispelling the specter of relegation, on the other hand, both teams still have the chance of the last place in the European Cup. A lot of explosiveness for the Upper Austria derby, in which LASK still has an open score with the Vikings this year: After two 1-0 home wins in the regular season, the Innviertel team won the qualifying group first leg in Pasching 2-0. The athletes want to take revenge for that today.
What happened if…
SV Ried is currently four points ahead of bottom Altach. LASK is one point ahead of Hartberg and Admira and two points ahead of today’s hosts in eighth place in the table. Three points are missing on leader Wattens, two rounds are still to play.
- With a home win, SV Ried would be saved from relegation and would overtake LASK in the table.
- If the points are shared in the Josko Arena, Altach, bottom of the table, can move up to one point behind the Vikings in the parallel game in Südstadt near Admira. If there is a draw or even a defeat for Altach in Ried and Mödling, the Rieders are also saved. For LASK, however, a draw could – depending on the Hartberger game in Tyrol – be a setback in the fight for the European Cup places.
- With a LASK success and points for the Vorarlbergers in the southern part of the city, Ried has to keep his nerve in the final tenth round of the qualifying group away in Hartberg. LASK, on the other hand, would have the best cards to take one of the two places for the European Cup playoff.
- Spicy: In the event of a tie, Altach has the edge in direct duels with Rieder due to the away goals rule. Yes, the away goals rule was actually abolished in European competitions last season. In the domestic Bundesliga, however, she is still a tie-breaker.
LASK can play more freely and have definitely been relieved of all relegation worries since the 3: 3 win against Hartberg. However, the athletes are not completely free of pressure either. Because you want to end a disappointing season, in which you fell well short of your own expectations, as positively as possible by entering the European Cup.

64th competitive match
So far, 63 games between SV Ried and LASK have been played in competitive games. The people of the Innviertel won 24 times and the people of Linz 22 times. In 17 cases the game ended in a draw. In 32 games, SV Ried had the home advantage and was able to use it 19 times. LASK has only returned to Linz 13 times with points, six times with a threesome.
Incidentally, it is still possible that there will not be a 65th duel this season. If Rieder wins both games and LASK wins the final duel with Admira while Tirol does not score any more points, the European Cup playoff would start with another Upper Austria derby in the Josko Arena.
