According to a broadcast by the local judo association (ÖJV), the 41-year-old Upper Austrian stood on the highest mountain in the world at 8,848 meters on Sunday afternoon with a judo belt and a Judo-For-Peace mascot. “Those were the most difficult days of my life. I was lucky enough to sit on the summit in good weather,” said Filzmoser.
The four-time Olympic participant and now ÖJV Vice President has been traveling in India and Nepal since March, cycled more than 1,000 kilometers and reeled off more than 10,000 meters in altitude. At the beginning of April, she began preparing for the ascent in the Everest region. “I promised my mother that I would come back with all my fingers and toes and also with a clear head. I succeeded!” said Filzmoser.
