Bolsonaro denounces a judge of the Federal Supreme Court and stirs up the clash of powers

Bolsonaro presented a news-crime before the Supreme Court in which he accuses the magistrate of “authority abuse” Y “unjustifiably extend” the process of the “digital militias” that was opened in March 2019.

Moraes was also accused of having denied access to the investigation files to the president’s lawyers.

The investigation into the dissemination of false news was launched after the authorization of De Moraes to share evidence obtained in other open cases against Bolsonaro, which with this one are already seven, including the alleged interference within the Federal Police or the prevarication in the purchase of vaccines against Covid-19.

According to these investigations, the so-called “digital militias” would have acted systematically in favor of Bolsonaro, spreading false information and attacking state institutions.

The complaint is part of the growing tension between the Executive and Judicial powers.

Judge Moraes, who is a member of the Federal Supreme Court, has often been questioned by Bolsonaro.

Moraes will assume the leadership of the Superior Electoral Court in three months, under whose orbit the October elections will be held, in which Bolsonaro will seek to be re-elected.

The president has repeatedly criticized the Electoral Court and questioned the “transparency” of the electronic ballot boxes.

Within this line of accusations, he went so far as to say that the Electoral Court would be complicit in a future fraud with electronic ballot boxes to favor the victory of former president Lula da Silva.

Weeks ago, Bolsonaro proposed that the military carry out a parallel count of the votes and spoke of “suspicion” about the scrutiny in charge of the electoral justice.

This Tuesday, Bolsonaro reinforced his revulsion against the electoral system and justified the use of weapons.

The means that one day perchance we will have to use do not matter, our democracy and our freedom are non-negotiable“, he stated during a rally in the state of Sergipe, in the northeast region.

“We defend weapons for the good citizen, we understand that the firearm, in addition to serving personal security, is also security for our national sovereignty and the guarantee that our democracy will be preserved,” Bolsonaro said yesterday.

For his part, the current head of the Electoral Tribunal, Judge Edson Fachinsaid yesterday that “the world is watching the Brazilian electoral process carefully” and referred to the presence of European and American observers in the October vote.

Fachin argued that Brazil has to convey to the world “a message of stability” and show that the country is no longer colluding with “authoritarian adventures.”
