Reinmar and Erich Kobler celebrated their doctorate “sub auspiciis praesidentis” at Graz University of Technology on Thursday. Federal President Van der Bellen presented them with the traditional certificate and the ring of honor with the coat of arms of the republic. “It was very nice to celebrate this moment with our family,” says Reinmar Kobler in the OÖN interview.
The special success was not planned well in advance. “In the doctorate you can calculate at some point that it could work out – that’s when we ignited the turbo,” says Reinmar Kobler. Then the brothers would have agreed to finish at about the same time.
The brothers were born in Grieskirchen in 1989 and both attended the HTL Paul-Hahn-Straße in Linz – Erich in the mechatronics department, Reinmar in information technology. Both of them chose telematics at Graz University of Technology. “We all had lectures together, did group work and lived in an apartment. It was nice to be able to discuss the content with one another,” says Reinmar Kobler.
Reinmar now lives in Japan with his wife and six-month-old daughter, while Erich lives in Linz with his wife and two-year-old daughter. “We haven’t seen each other for a year and a half, now it’s very nice to be able to spend time together again,” says Erich Kobler.
The brothers celebrate their doctorate with their families on a holiday together in southern Styria – before they devote themselves fully to their research again.
