The car fell a few kilometers from the border in the western Hungarian town of Kapuvar from a bridge into the Repce River, the 112 Emergency Press news agency reported, citing the police. Four occupants – three migrants and the driver – were killed.
Eight other migrants suffered injuries. The cause was initially unclear.
In any case, the car was overloaded with a total of twelve occupants. The authorities did not provide any information on the origin of the migrants. The car had a Bulgarian license plate. Hungary is on the so-called Balkan route, which leads from Turkey to Western Europe via several south-eastern European countries. Again and again there are serious accidents with tractor vehicles because their drivers are under great stress. Sometimes the accidents are also the result of chases by police patrols. In this case, however, no police were nearby, it said.
