Haft: Linzer sold counterfeit art from Egypt

The 44-year-old is suspected of having damaged his buyers by around 250,000 euros with the sale of forged or invented ancient Egyptian art objects. After learning about the prosecution by the judiciary, he went into hiding in Vienna in November 2021. Since then he has lived there as a so-called submarine.

For more than three months, the Steyr public prosecutor’s office had officially issued a national arrest warrant for him for serious commercial fraud. In mid-August, officers from the Upper Austrian State Criminal Police Office took over the search for him.

Yesterday, Tuesday, after extensive search measures at Vienna’s Westbahnhof, officers from the Upper Austrian State Criminal Police Office located him and arrested him on a train bound for Salzburg. After consultation with the competent public prosecutor’s office, the 44-year-old – officially he currently has no place of residence – is admitted to the Garsten prison.
