When the drummer of the Rolling Stones encountered the Bad Ischl pillory shooters

A new book written and published by the two Rolling Stones experts Olaf Boehme and Gerd Coordes deals with the Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts (1941 – 2021) and his musical excursions.

Watts performed twice with his band “The ABC & D Of Boogie Woogie” in 2010 and 2012 in the sold-out Bad Ischler Lehartheater, whose special ambience he greatly appreciated. Watts and his band thrilled the Salzkammergut audience, who were able to experience the superstar up close on stage.

An extraordinary moment in 2012 was the band’s stop at the Bad Ischler Gasthaus Grabnerwirt, where Watts and his colleagues (Axel Zwingenberger, Ben Waters and Dave Green) encountered the Ischler Prangerschützen. The encounter is honored in the newly published book on a double page with a series of photos. They show that the encounter was a special moment for the world star. The pictures by the Bad Ischler photographer Christoph Lenzenweger show a very interested Charlie Watts in a traditional costume.

Following the New Year’s Eve shooting of the Ischl pillory shooters last weekend, MEP Hannes Heide and Mayor Ines Schiller each presented a copy of the book to Thomas Sams and Hans Aitzinger. Sams is the chairman of the Prangerschützen, and Aitzinger welcomed the band as host. Heide himself had initiated the band’s performance in Bad Ischl in his function as mayor at the time.

Mayor Schiller recalled that the Ischler Prangerschützen, like other clubs, represent the city of Bad Ischl as cultural ambassadors and in this way carry the reputation of the cultural city to the outside world. The pillory shooters will also take part in this year’s Austrian City Day in Bad Ischl. Then there is a meeting with Federal President Alexander van der Bellen, Vienna’s Mayor Michael Ludwig (SPÖ) and Governor Thomas Stelzer (ÖVP).
