Strong annual balance of the water rescue in Bad Goisern

In the previous year, the Goiserer local office of the Austrian water rescue service recorded three alarm calls, one person rescue, two material goods rescues and two technical assistance services. This emerges from the annual balance presented by Secretary Christina Leimer today.

A highlight of the year was taking delivery of the new service boat in August. The boat, a FASTER 635 with a bow hatch, has a total length of 6.34 metres, weighs 1450 kilograms and is ideally motorized with a 150 hp outboard motor. In late summer and autumn, the members of the Bad Goisern local office were trained on the new boat.

In 2021, the members of the water rescue service performed 33 voluntary services at the Untersee lido to monitor the pool with a total of 485 hours of work.

The water rescue was also diligent in the area of training and further education: the swimming teachers taught 57 children how to swim in the Bad Goisern park pool. In the local office, 17 early swimmers, six swimmers and two all-round swimmers were trained. The Bad Goisern water rescue service also trained 15 new lifeguards. Twelve people from the Bad Goisern local office acquired the helper’s license. Three water rescuers from the Bad Goisern local office were able to pass the rescuer’s license test.

In March, the water rescuers supported the organizer Bernhard Höll in setting up the competition site as part of the Hallstättersee Ice Swimming in Obertraun. Four twenty-five meter lengths were installed in water that was just under five degrees cold. On the day of the event, the members of the water rescue team ensured the safety of the ice swimmers with their lifeguards and rescue divers.

After a two-year break due to corona, the Goiserer children once again had the opportunity to take part in introductory diving with the water rescue service as part of the holiday fun. After a short theoretical introduction to the world of diving, the children were able to gain their own first experiences under water.

At the beginning of August, the Hallstättersee swimming marathon took place with different distances. 18 members of the Austrian water rescue service in Bad Goisern again ensured the safety of the starters.

Fortunately, after a forced two-year break, the youth camp of the Bad Goisern water rescue service, including a midsummer bonfire, was able to take place again this year. Twelve children and young people met at the Untersee lido to spend three eventful days together.
