The car with Slovenian license plates was driving on the A8 in the direction of Suben around 12 noon on Saturday. A 19-year-old Croatian was behind the wheel, and a 15-year-old, also from Croatia, was in the passenger seat. At Steinhaus near Wels, the toll supervisor wanted to stop the vehicle because of the missing vignette. The driver stopped in the breakdown bay, but suddenly turned around and drove away in the opposite direction.

The danger for other road users was great, because at that time there were many vehicles on the freeway. As Asfinag employees reported, there were almost head-on collisions with other cars several times.

The boy and girl fled on foot

While police patrols were on the trail of the fleeing car, it became known that it was wanted in Slovenia. Police officers finally discovered the car on the motorway exit at the Sattledt service station. When they wanted to stop the driver, he stepped on the gas again and touched the guardrail on the ramp to the A8 with the car, so that it could no longer drive. The boy and girl jumped out of the vehicle and fled on foot.

Nine patrols, police dogs and police helicopters were deployed to search for the fugitive duo. Around 2:30 p.m. both were discovered in the vicinity of the motorway and arrested. They were taken to the Wels Motorway Police Station. The stolen car was secured.

The 19-year-old driver is shown. The 15-year-old, who was reported missing in Croatia, is being cared for in a socio-educational facility.
