The Carnival holiday registered figures similar to the tourist boom in January

The occupancy level was greater than 80%, with a great concentration of activity in the department of Maldonado, reported the Ministry of Tourism.

As happened during the first weeks of January, there was a large influx of Argentine tourists who traveled through Uruguay to enjoy the XXL weekend generated by the holidays on Monday and Tuesday of Carnival.

The reality exceeded the expectations of the tourism sector that feared a decrease in movement for this festivity.

Xavier Senapresident of the Real Estate Chamber of Punta del Estehad assured in mid-February in dialogue with scope.com that the number of consultations for February had almost equaled those made at the time of the beginning of the season.

“There is a lot of encouragement to come to the area,” he stressed. In addition, he explained that there are people with purchase intentions. “That brings with it that it can also start to move in winter and that is good because it moves the entire sector,” she said.

The next holiday in Uruguay will only be at the beginning of April, with the Tourism Week -which coincides with Catholic Holy Week- and which will run from the 2nd to the 9th of that month, with projections of a lot of movement not only of foreign tourists to the country, but also of Uruguayans traveling abroad with Argentina, Brazil and the Caribbean as favorite destinations.
