North Korea conducted a strategic missile launch drill

“The Central Military Commission of the Labor Party of Korea expressed its great satisfaction over the results of these launches,” reported the official agency KCNA.

The four Hwasal-2 missiles were launched from the town of Kim Chaek, North Hamgyong province, in the east-central part of the country, towards the Sea of Japan, the agency said, adding that they traveled 2,000 kilometers before hitting “with accuracy” on your target.

It was the latest in a series of provocative missile launches by Pyongyang, raising fears of a possible nuclear test for the first time since 2017.

The United States and its allies urged the UN Security Council on Monday to condemn North Korea’s illegal ballistic missile launches, but China and Russia blamed Washington for escalating tensions with intensified military exercises against Pyongyang.

The 15-member council was supposed to agree to condemn the missile launches and urge Pyongyang to abide by UN security standards, but China and Russia have said what is needed now is a dialogue between North Korea. and the Joe Biden administration, a reduction in military exercises, a relaxation of sanctions against Pyongyang.

The North Korean government accused the UN Secretary General, António Gutierres, of “an extremely unfair and unbalanced attitude, because he condemns our missile test but ignores the hostilities of the United States.”

The accusation coincided with the participation of destroyers from the United States, South Korea and Japan in trilateral anti-missile training near the Korean peninsula.
