In this way, starting next Wednesday, anyone who exceeds the maximum speed allowed by 15 kilometers will receive a notification. As you move up the scale, you may receive an intermediate fine of 4 Resettable Units (UR); and the maximum fine is 10 UR.
A first balance of the radars
According to Municipality of Maldonado (IDM), the first balance of the radars —during the first stage in which they did not process fines— was positive. Statistics show that the main objective was met, which was slow down the trafficwhich, in turn, led to a significant drop in the accident rate at the points where the radars were placed.
The next stage, with the beginning of the application of the economic fineswill seek to correct the margin of drivers who still continue to violate traffic laws and signage, especially when it comes to maximum speed.
A similar strategy is carried out by the Municipality of Montevideo (IM), which also managed to lower the accident rate in several areas of the capital through the use of radars. In the same sense, and within the framework of the high traffic that occurs during the summer, the Highway Police deployed a series of mobile radars in search of controlling speeding on national routes.
