The price paid in the country is ten times less than that paid by Mexicans for the same speed of data connection ($2.89) and is also much lower than that of its neighbor Argentina, where one GB costs $1.48. About Brazil the difference is $0.47.
To formulate its Worldwide Mobile data pricing 2022, Cable analyzed the prices of more than 5,000 mobile data plans in 233 countries. Worldwide, Uruguay has the ninth cheapest mobile internet.
The spectrum auction for the 5G connection
The government is currently analyzing the observations that the telephone companies made to the specifications for the 5G network auctionwhich will take place this year and where before is one of the beneficiaries.
The auction will be for three lots of radio frequencies corresponding to the 3.5 GHz band, one of which is reserved for the state company, which will pay the average value at which the other two are acquired. The base price of the tender will be 28 million dollars.
The government plan includes a series of requirements for the winning companies: in the first year they must have 70 base stations in the national territory; in the second, at least two stations in at least ten departments, except Montevideo; and in the third, at least two base stations in each department of the country.
