Halloween riots in Linz: First trial starts today

With the trial of a 22-year-old, who is said to have helped lead the Halloween riots in Linz, the series of five lawsuits against predominantly young people with a migration background started on Thursday in the regional court. In all cases, increased security measures such as a ban on photography apply. The naming of employees of the judiciary in the reporting was also prohibited.

The accused Syrian is accused of having called numerous participants and asked with hand signals to take action against the executive on Halloween night in downtown Linz. He is also said to have led a group that threw pyrotechnic objects – including category 3 and 4 fireworks – towards the police. According to the prosecutor, he himself threw stones and pyrotechnics at officials. The charges are aggravated community violence and aggravated assault. The penalty is up to three years imprisonment.
