Awakening the joy of sport and promoting the children’s urge to move: This is what the “Sport & Fun with the Stars” format launched by the City of Linz around five years ago aims to do. Every year, the figureheads of the Linz clubs are brought on board for this “sporting mission”.
Vice Mayor Karin Hörzing (SP), who is responsible for sports agendas and who initiated the movement campaign, drew a satisfied balance yesterday. From playing football with the footballers from Blau-Weiss Linz to playing ice hockey together with the Black Wings ice hockey players, the format has been a huge success at all levels in recent years. This was not slowed down by the corona crisis and the associated switch to digital sports units.
In total, thousands of school beginners have taken part in the various activities in recent years. In addition to football and ice hockey, the program also includes tennis, athletics, swimming and volleyball. “For the kids, the sports lessons with the athletes are an unforgettable experience. Like their great role models, they are ambitious and fully committed to the cause and often discover their interest in the respective sport,” said Hörzing, who thanked the clubs very much. New collaborations have been added this year – including with the Urban Dance Club (Breaking).
