City Councilor Evelyn Kattnigg (FP) is responding to the announcement by Energie Ried that, from May 1st, gas prices for around 1,500 household and small commercial customers will be reduced by 45 percent from 21 .59 cents to 11.99 cents gross per kilowatt hour.

“I lack courageous decisions, hesitant action and waiting is not the trend given the high gas prices,” says Kattnigg, who is also a member of the SBS supervisory board: “Citizens of Steyr don’t know how to pay the gas bill and are still struggling with additional payments. ” People would need a perspective that, after the last nine gas price increases since October 2021, prices would be reduced significantly in a timely manner. “Floating prices” that change monthly, as SBS boss Peter Hochgatterer announced in the OÖN at the weekend, are not the big hit.

individual solutions

According to Hochgatterer, the tariff for the “Floater” is currently 11.04 cents. Work is being done on offers for existing customers who currently have to pay 22.28 cents per kilowatt hour.

This is also confirmed by the responsible city councilor Katrin Auer (SP), chairwoman of the SBS supervisory board: “However, we have to be extremely careful economically. But of course we are behind the fact that we relieve our customers.” There are individual solutions for Steyrers who have problems paying their bills.

Kattnigg is also calling for a long-term gas trading strategy from the SBS: “After all, an exit from fossil fuels is planned across the EU. What will then happen to the existing gas pipelines in Steyr?” When saying goodbye to the combustion engine, Kattnigg, like her party colleague responsible at state level, Infrastructure State Councilor Günther Steinkellner, is still on the brakes.
