When the mayor of Linz ruined a “brand new monster crane”.

The mayor at the time, Franz Hillinger, was supposed to put the vehicle, which cost two and a half million schillings, into operation, but a mishap happened: after the start-up was too vigorous, a rope jumped out of the guide. The crane had to be taken to the workshop immediately after the ceremony. The mayor may not have received proper training beforehand, OÖN reported on March 7, 1973. The “amateur firefighter” Hillinger was allowed to listen to some ridicule from his colleagues in the city senate for the mistake.
