Ombudsman Bernhard Achitz will hold a consultation day in Braunau next Wednesday. Anyone who feels they have been treated unfairly by an authority or who would like information can contact him. An appointment is required.

Mr Volksanwalt, you will soon be in Braunau. What issues can I come to you with on Wednesday?
All problems with an authority can be brought to us: problems with social security, youth welfare office, building authorities, problems with the AMS due to the suspension of services. Sometimes it’s about childcare allowance, often it’s also about nuisance from companies, i.e. noise and odor nuisance and the like. We are not responsible for disputes under private law, i.e. no neighborhood disputes, no divorce proceedings or custody processes. Also not for disputes with insurance companies or mobile phone operators.

So a wide range of problems…
Yes, de facto much broader than I have been able to describe to you now. Unforeseen things always come up. I once had a land consolidation in Lower Austria. Nobody can imagine anything that is not affected by it themselves.

Floor cleaning yes, floor cleaning no. What is that?
Agricultural land is often very distributed in one area through sales or inheritance. A farmer has a field here and the next three kilometers away. It was about merging the fields. You just have to evaluate areas and make sure that nobody gets an advantage. A very complicated thing.

Such talk days are probably often emotionally charged. Do you sometimes become a psychologist?
Yes, one experiences many destinies and circumstances.

Do consultation days in the country run differently than in the (big) city?
What is striking is that people who are registered usually come and are very punctual. In Vienna it often happens to me that people come too late or not at all. On land, the deadlines are meticulously met, which of course makes our work easier.
