It feels like the goal, the start and the way in equal measure, says Martin Reiter on the occasion of the upcoming opening of the Leonding Primary Care Center (PVZ) on the Harter Plateau.

Together with his colleagues Thomas Badhofer, Bernhard Züger and Simon Zlabinger, Reiter will be ordaining in the new Giwog building from Monday. The quartet of general practitioners will be supported by a team of around 20 people. In addition to ordination assistants and qualified health workers, this includes physiotherapists, ergotherapists, dieticians and a psychologist. As reported, the Leondinger PVZ is the tenth of its kind in Upper Austria.

Open 40 hours a week

At the beginning of 2020, general practitioners first rolled out the idea of founding a primary care center and were not discouraged by the “long and sometimes difficult” negotiations. All four did their general practitioner training at the Kepler University Hospital, and some of them already know each other from their student days.

Like the recently opened PVZ in Traun, the Leonding center is also an appointment ordination. Appointments can be booked either by telephone or via the homepage (pvzleonding.at). Overall, the PVZ is open 40 hours a week from Monday to Friday. Reiter emphasizes the short distances and extended opening hours as a great advantage for doctors and patients alike, and the promising opportunities for cooperation that this form of organization opens up are also a plus.

Mayor Sabine Naderer-Jelinek (SP), City Councilor for Health Michael Täubel (FP) and GIWOG CEO Wolfgang Modera are also very happy about the new PVZ. For Naderer-Jelinek, this will further expand the good medical infrastructure in the city. However, she does not hide the fact that there is still potential in the fourth largest city in Upper Austria, especially with regard to paediatricians.

The medical team’s considerations of locating a pediatrician position in the PVZ came to nothing, at least for the time being, but they were not given up entirely. Reiter says live the chance. In any case, an area for a pediatrician’s surgery is currently still free and will remain reserved, says Modera, who emphasizes the “top qualification” of the team that has already been found.

In the new building with an underground car park, which consists of a four- and an eleven-storey building, there are rental apartments as well as office and commercial space in addition to the PVZ. The new “Bio-Wanderbäcker” branch will open with the PVZ next week, and the district office of the municipality of Leonding is also expected to start operations at the site at the end of April.
