As reported, the planned container village in Traun is causing (political) waves to rise. Today, Friday, a security summit on the subject took place. In addition to the mayor of Traun, Karl-Heinz Koll (VP) and district governor Manfred Hagenauer, representatives of the Federal Agency for Care and Support Services and the Traun blue light organizations took part.

Nothing has changed in Koll’s negative attitude, but he drew a positive balance after the appointment insofar as “all open questions” were answered. From July 1st at the earliest, asylum seekers should be housed in the planned container village on the ÖBB-Grund on Zaunermühlstrasse, the economic calculation is designed for five years, the representatives from Vienna said, he said.

Maximum 100 people

The BBU had also confirmed that there was a maximum limit of 100 people. The accommodation of men between the ages of 18 and 25 traveling alone (primarily from Syria and Afghanistan) is being considered, and the duration of the accommodation should be between one and three months. Initially, no more than 15 to 20 people should be accommodated. The need for quarters will be decisive for the further level of occupancy, the municipality would be informed about three weeks before the first occupancy, the BBU said.

The start of construction for the village is scheduled for the end of March, with completion planned for the beginning of May. According to the BBU, it is also planned that social workers and security staff will be on site around the clock, as well as entry and exit controls and binding house rules, Koll informed.

The mayor wants to hold an initial meeting with residents on Saturday, March 18th (10 a.m. in the ATSV-Stüberl St. Martin) to inform the citizens. “I understand the concerns and fears of the residents and will ensure that they are supported accordingly.”
