As an alternative to gas, the leading company recently had a biomass plant built as the primary heat source for the Sattledt site. In the future, both the head office and the adjacent branch (logistics center and administration) of the discounter will be heated with wood chips.
Because: Because of the sustainability initiative “Today for tomorrow”, Hofer says he wants to make a contribution to climate and environmental protection. Due to additional energy-saving measures taken at the site, gas will only be used to cover peak periods in the future.
How much is saved each year
Not only because of the currently high gas prices, heat generation with biomass is now a particularly good alternative to conventional heating systems. Because it is a heating that is operated in an environmentally friendly way with renewable, biological fuels such as naturally renewable wood. The heat generated when the wood chips are burned heats the water in the biomass heating system, which is then forwarded to the heating systems in all buildings and rooms according to the central heating principle. The wood chip heating makes it possible to save more than 300 tons of CO2 equivalents year after year compared to the previous heating with gas.
Hofer employs 12,000 people and most recently had a turnover of 4.6 billion euros.
