OSE decided to lower the pressure of the water supply in Lavalleja

The director of the state body, Edgardo Ortuño, told the press that the situation is dramatic in some parts of Uruguay.

Due to the drought that does not give truce in UruguayObras Sanitarias del Estado (OSE), resolved to lower the pressure of the water supply in some areas of the country, while the director of the state agency told the press that the situation in some parts of the country is dramatic.

Edgardo Ortunodirector of State Sanitary Works (OSE) On behalf of the Broad Front, he informed the press that the agency decided to lower the pressure of the water supply for residents in the city of Minas, capital of the Lavalleja department, in the center-east of the country. The director remarked that this decision is due to the fact that Lavalleja’s reserves would last until this month.

On the other hand, Ortuño explained that, beyond the lack of rain, OSE is suffering the loss of officials that limited the possibility of dealing with the breaks they receive through complaints from the population and that, for that, it is necessary to increase the crews.

In addition, the director detailed the particular situation that the most important reserve in Montevideo is going through, Severine Passwhere it currently has a flow between 20 and 25 million, when usually that reserve has 67 million cubic liters. Given this, it was decided to go to the reserve of large cannelloni which currently has less than a million liters cubic when it usually has 18 million.

The departments that would run out of water at the end of March

In Peach, the rains improved the situation of the river, which remains stable at the intake level. However, there will be Guaranteed supply only during March.

The Department of lavalleja also has reservations only for this month. In the town of Minas, the supply from the Santa Lucía river and the San Francisco stream continues to alternate. The extraction of water from Minas de Valencia began, but the availability of that source is still uncertain.

Meanwhile in Florida reserves “guarantee a minimum supply of 45 days”, OSE warned. The rains recorded at the end of February allowed the reserves to improve, and for this reason the Sauzal de los Cerros dam was closed, in order to preserve it. In addition, the transfer from the middle lagoon ceased.
