State Sanitary Works (OSE) will receive support from the Ministry of the Environment, which will be in charge of pumping the bed of the Santa Lucía River on private land, as well as the Ministry of Defence that will provide personnel to handle large tanker trucks, necessary to help the department of lavallejawhich is one of the most suffered in the Uruguay and has a chance of running out of water this month.

The Department of lavalleja is going through a compromised situation due to the drought, where there is a possibility that they will run out of water this month, if they continue on this path. That’s why he Ministry of Environment published this Monday that it will deploy new work mechanisms to help the department.

From the portfolio they communicated that one of the measures adopted is “the feeding of the Santa Lucía River by means of pumping in the channel, which implies the entry of OSE into private land to carry out interventions in the water intakes”. The state body reported that it had a meeting with the families that own the land and said they were committed to helping.

“They agreed with OSE on a joint procedure to ensure the entry of technicians to the property and thus carry out the task. OSE, for its part, will be responsible for the economic damages that these interventions may cause in the territory,” added the Environment statement.

On the other hand, they established the creation of a technical commission which will have the objective of “monitoring the environmental impact that interventions that will be carried out on private land may generate.” This is due to the great affectation of the water resources that Uruguay has for the production of drinking water.

In addition, they asked the population to consume water responsibly, avoiding non-essential uses, while the situation of water deficit in the department of Lavalleja lasts.

Defense will also support Lavalleja

Last week, an agreement was signed between the Ministry of Defence and OSE to guarantee support actions for the department that suffers the most from water deficit, especially in the city of Minas.

From Defense they will contribute four soldiers who have the necessary registration to use tanker trucks, which are necessary to carry out the withdrawal of water from the dam of the UTE Holiday Park because the water Valencia mines and those of other maneuvers had been retained there.
