This Monday the first outbreak of bird flu in poultry in Chile as confirmed by the authorities. As a preventive measure, exports of the item were suspendedannounced the Minister of Agriculture, Esteban Valenzuela.
“There is a proven case in an Agrosuper campus in the western sector of the Rancagua commune“, the minister explained to the press.
The Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG) -sanitary regulator- also pointed out that the affected plant had 40,000 breeding birds.
“The SAG has proceeded to control said area and immediately, in addition, meeting the highest standards, the World Organization for Animal Health has been informed (OMSA) and has therefore proceeded to close the export of poultry meatThe ministry added in a later statement.
However, he said they hope that once the 28 days of observation protocols are completed, exports can recover their usual capacity.
Avian Influenza is a contagious viral disease that affects both domestic and wild birds, without cure or treatment. Less frequently, viruses have also been isolated from mammalian species, as well as from humans.
