I’m getting sick of how social democracy is supposed to continue in Austria (…).” This was the last Facebook post by long-time SPÖ municipal councilor Helga Feller-Höller on Tuesday night. Feller-Höller was a member of the municipal council for 24 years from 1997 to 2021. Among other things, she was also a co-founder of the legendary cultural association “Ypsilon”. “It was Helga Feller-Höller’s merit that she politically demanded our social democratic values - freedom, equality, justice and solidarity – and lived them personally. She was a progressive and self-confident woman,” says SPÖ district chairwoman Katrin Auer. Condolences now go to her husband Dieter and everyone who mourns her.
Helga Feller-Höller joined the SPÖ in 1980 at the age of 20. She was involved in the younger generation, chaired the district education organization from 1991 to 2007 and was a member of the SPÖ district party executive from 1991 to 2020. From 2001 to 2009 she was a member of the regional party executive committee of the SPÖ Upper Austria. Last year, Helga Feller-Höller was honored with the Victor Adler plaque, the highest award of social democracy.
Companions are affected, describe their comrade and friend as very clever. Her photo books deserved the title “particularly valuable”. A picture entitled “Our Man in Cuba” was created on a trip to Cuba. What was meant was the former SP Chancellor Alfred Gusenbauer, whom the travel group had met by chance. Such anecdotes and stimulating discussions about politics and art will always be fondly remembered by Feller-Höller’s companions.
