Ancap corrects upwards the losses for stopping La Teja: they will be US$ 200 million

The National Administration of Fuels, Alcohol and Portland (Ancap) will lose 200 million dollars due to the repairs and remodeling that the La Teja refinerywhich will imply the total shutdown of the plant and the consequent affectation of production.

The loss will be greater than originally projected, since last month Ancap had established that amount at 72 million dollars.

In addition, the tasks in La Teja will not take three months, but between four and five, hence the costs for the state oil company have increased.

Ancap must, during that period, import the fuel. It will do so through tenders with the aim of maintaining the amount of production in reserve that the company always has.

The provider is probably trafiguraone of the world’s largest companies in the sector, which handles more than 6 million barrels of fuel per day and which, in the past, has already sold to the state company at a competitive price.

During 2022, Ancap stopped collecting about 230 million dollars as a consequence of the government’s policy of lowering or freezing public fuel rates.

“That is so because of frequent adjustments. The more frequent the adjustment, the less one loses against the other. The less Ancap loses to society, and the less society loses to Ancap”, justified the president of the oil company, Alejandro Stipanicic.

On the other hand, the president of Ancap admitted that fuel prices are “extremely expensive” although he stated that he believes that the way to set rates, through the reference to the import parity price (PPI), is the most correct. Although he stressed that it is necessary to solve the taxes, rates and costs of distribution in order to make fuel rates more competitive.
