The focus of a fine concert on his 91st birthday in the monastery’s Benedict Hall with the “Wilheringer Notenköpfen” was the percussion, which became the engine of his music. This is also the case in “Moment musical” op. 250, which was recorded on CD by violinist Vera Kral and percussionist Leonhard Schmidinger in 2005, but has never been heard publicly. The changing sounds of the vibraphone mixed ideally with the large-scale violin melodies. Also in “Mutwilligkeit” for viola and percussion trio, op. 290. Laura-Maria Jungwirth had to “fight” with the viola against an arsenal of percussion instruments, but thanks to skilful division of voices she always had the melodic upper hand and bonded brilliantly with the percussionists Leonhard Schmidinger, Miguel Llorente Gil and Nico Gerstmayer. He was also an outstanding soloist in the “sulzer-free” supporting program with an arrangement of Bach’s E minor lute suite for marimba and with both percussionists in Minoru Miki’s “Marimba Spiritual”, which the birthday child would have liked in its rhythmic, dynamic variety.
