Aurach, Voecklabruck. Leo Steinbichler is a formative figure in Austria’s agricultural policy. “Peasant rebel”, “political chameleon”, “jack of all trades”, even “turner” and many other more or less flattering designations have already been given to the busy farmer from Aurach. Since being kicked out of the farmers’ association, Steinbichler has been fighting on various fronts for more animal welfare, healthier food and greater transparency in the agricultural sector. Now he has written a book about it.

“We feed the wrong cows” is the name of the work that has just been published by Verlag Ueberreuter. Steinbichler describes his career in the ÖVP, from his rise to the Bundesrat to the rift, and devotes himself to machinations in Austria’s agriculture and food industry. It’s about the fraudulent labeling of quality seals, the lies in the production of food and the timber imports from the East. Steinbichler unmasks the bio-shame, blames the mechanization of agriculture at any price, laments the “death of farmers” and names the “causes of death” by name.

On March 31, 7 p.m., Steinbichler will present his work in the OKH Vöcklabruck. Admission free, seat reservations recommended by email [email protected] or Tel. 07672 / 26400.
