A total of 17 people were found. Ten lived in demolished houses on Boschweg in the chemical park, seven more under a nearby bridge. Among the people in the demolished houses was an infant aged just under a year.

“Massive flaws”

The operation was preceded by complaints from residents. “The emergency services found massive structural, safety and hygiene deficiencies, which made rapid intervention necessary because of self-endangerment,” said City Councilor Michael Raml (FP). There are no electricity, water or sewage connections in the houses. The people used gas cookers and light sources with open flames. In the event of a fire, escape routes would not have been free due to the massive accumulation of waste.

Due to the prevailing cold, employees from the Social Affairs, Youth and Family/Educational Services department temporarily accommodated the small child and his parents in a homeless facility.
