AEBU announced a strike for this Thursday

Yesterday, the Uruguayan Banking Association (AEBU) announced a strike this Thursday, March 23, within the framework of the pension reform promoted by the government, coinciding with the demonstrations of the PIT-CNT.

The union will mobilize in Montevideoand metropolitan area in La Paz, Urban Coast, Roosevelt Park and Pando starting at 1:30 p.m. and the end time will be announced at the same mobilization.

“The trade union movement opposes a project that requires more years of work in exchange for lower retirements, that deepens gender inequities and does not seek new ways to finance the system,” states the official AEBU statement that will paralyze the entire system financial while the demonstrations last.

They will be concentrated in Plaza Independencia, in front of the executive towerand will move from 2:00 p.m. to the legislative Palace. In the departmental capitals, the strike will be from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. with a concentration and reading of the proclamation in place to be defined by each section. While in the rest of the interior of the Uruguay A strike will be held from 3:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., also with a reading of the proclamation, but from the work space.

The general strike of the PIT-CNT

The PIT-CNT announced at the beginning of March the holding of a general strike against the social security reform that treats the Chamber of Deputies and whose sanction is expected by the end of the month.

The stoppage of activities will begin at 9 in the morning and has no specific end time at the moment. The PIT-CNT installed a tent on Monday to provide information in the vicinity of the legislative Palace, and on Thursday 23 the strike will take place with mobilization and act. Last December, the union central held a demonstration in the Senate while the social security reform was being voted on.
