The minister of Defending (mdn), javier garciastated before the press that next Wednesday at 09:00 a.m. the Uruguayan Association of Air Traffic Controllers will be summoned (Actau) to a meeting, together with the Department of Labor of the Ministry of Labor and Social Security (MTSS), after the union’s declaration of conflict, and the suspension of flights scheduled for the month of April. García, is confident that, based on the “dialogue”, the Actau will lift the measures and have “empathy” with thousands of workers in the tourism sector who would be affected by the union actions during the Tourism Week.

The Actau had made the decision to suspend takeoffs between April 3 and 16 in response “to the breach of the agreement signed with the government on December 30 of last year, and its addendum of January 31 of this year.” In turn, it had called on the MDN and the MTSS to “a tripartite instance for know the actions carried out by MDN-DINACIA (Ministry of Defense – National Directorate of Civil Aviation and Aeronautical Infrastructure) on the agreed points” in said agreement.

García was optimistic about reaching an agreement, and said that from his portfolio “a lot of progress has been made despite the fact that this is an agreement from December to January.” Likewise, he recalled again that the Actau measures will affect the “Uruguayan workers who were hardest hit by the pandemic“, with next week being “a very important job opportunity”.
