Complications in Tourism Week: air traffic controllers suspend takeoffs

The union rejected the budgeting deadlines presented by the Defense Ministry. Blow to the tourist exodus.

This Wednesday the Association of Air Traffic Controllers of Uruguay (Actau) met with him Ministry of Defense (MDN) in the National Labor Directorate to reach an agreement for the stoppages reported by the union; however, despite the will of the Ministry, Actau decided to continue with the measures of force.

From Actau they remarked that they valued “positively the will of the Ministry of Defense to comply with the points agreed in December” and that they celebrated “the scope of negotiation and permanent monitoring proposed”. That’s why they decided”accept the minutes proposed by the MDN in its entiretyexcept in the fourth article referring to budgeting deadlines, nor the suspension of the measures published”.

However, they rejected “the delay in the Ministry of Economy for the budgeting of the colleagues, which should have occurred in October 2021.” Because of this, they decided to continue with the no-takeoff measures announced this week until the budget claimed is finalized.

The Actau had made the decision to suspend takeoffs between April 3 and 16 in response to “the breach of the agreement signed with the government on December 30 from last yearand its addendum of January 31 of the current year.” In turn, he had called the MDN and the Ministry of Labor and Social Security (MTSS), to “a tripartite instance in order to know the actions carried out by MDN-DINACIA (Ministry of Defense – National Directorate of Civil Aviation and Aeronautical Infrastructure) on the agreed points” in said agreement.

  • March 4: 01:00 to 03:00 and 13:00 to 15:00.
  • March 5th: 02:00 to 04:00 and 14:00 to 16:00.
  • 6th of March: 03:00 to 05:00 and 15:00 to 17:00.
  • 7 of March: 04:00 to 06:00 and 16:00 to 18:00.
  • March 8: 05:00 to 07:00 and 17:00 to 19:00.
  • March 9: 06:00 to 08:00 and 18:00 to 20:00.
  • March 10th: 07:00 to 09:00 and 19:00 to 21:00.
  • March 11th: 08:00 to 10:00 and 20:00 to 22:00.
  • March 12: 09:00 to 11:00 and 21:00 to 23:00.
  • March 13: 10:00 to 12:00 and 22:00 to 00:00.
  • March 14: 02:00 to 04:00 and 14:00 to 16:00.
  • March, 15th: 03:00 to 05:00 and 15:00 to 17:00.
  • March 16: 04:00 to 06:00 and 16:00 to 18:00.

The Act assured that are excluded of union measures flights affected by weatherof search and rescueof emergencyof State, humanitarianand sanitary. Along these lines, it was reported that Actau’s actions “in no case endanger the life, safety or health of all or part of the population, because they are aircraft on the ground.”

In turn, he expressed his regret for the inconvenience that the measures could cause to passengers and users of the aeronautical system, “due to a situation in which we have fully complied with all of what was agreed.”
