The 28-year-old from the Eferding district had drunk a lot of alcohol with friends at the match before he fell over the steps and hit his head. After an emergency operation in the LKH Graz, his condition was still “very critical”.

As the Styrian police headquarters announced in a broadcast on Friday, the football fan had traveled to Graz with four friends from Upper Austria to watch the cup game and then to spend the night in a quarter in the St. Peter district. When entering the accommodation, however, he must have gotten the wrong entrance and stumbled over a ledge about five centimeters high in the entrance area of ​​a cellar. He fell several meters down the steps and hit his head on the concrete floor.

Severe head injuries

His 29-year-old companion immediately called an ambulance and an ambulance team treated the injured man. However, it quickly became clear that he had suffered serious head injuries. He was taken to Graz Regional Hospital in critical condition and operated on during the night. As of this morning, his condition was still “very critical,” police said. Further investigations into the exact course of the accident are still being carried out, but according to the officials there is no evidence of third-party fault.
