Marco Haller’s bike was destroyed in a training accident on Monday in Techelsberg, the Bora pro himself was uninjured. According to the “Kleine Zeitung”, the 32-year-old stopped at a bottleneck behind a car during a training session.
Its driver pushed back to make room for another car and overlooked Haller – the Carinthian just made it out of the pedals, his 20,000 euro bike was scrapped.
“The driver first thought that he had only caught a branch,” Haller is quoted as saying by the newspaper. Accordingly, the pick-up first rolled over Haller’s wheel with the rear tires. Then with the front ones. “And in the end he had to go over it again, three times in total. Crazy”, Haller had to watch as only carbon confetti remained from his bike.
As much as the sight hurt, the bike has now been replaced by his racing team. The driver of the car did not want to comment on the “Kleine Zeitung”. Haller publicly called for more caution in road traffic.
