Almost 8% of the population has already been censused

The National Institute of Statistics reported the estimates made for occupied private homes.

He Statistics National Institute (INE), reported that, as of today afternoon, there were some 101,254 census questionnaires completed digitally, a number that represents the 7.8% of the country’s population.

In the breakdown, the three departments that completed the most questionnaires were Montevideo with some 51,955 people, cannelloni with 16,842 and maldonado with some 5,579, in line with the largest population in these departments.

At the other end, Flowers, Thirty-threeand Artigas they have only reported about 865, 804 and 791 completed census questionnaires, respectively. It should be noted that Flores is the department with the least number of inhabitants, with just over 25,000 people.

80.2% of people chose to register through mobile technology

According to the INE, the average time to complete the questionnaire was 30 minutesand 80.2% of people opted for mobile technology, while only 18.8% filled out the form from a desktop computer. In turn, the most usual time slot for the population to register was from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., and from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

The official body reminds the entire population that “a single census questionnaire must be completed per household, which includes all the data of its members“, and “it is imperative that the census window is not closed while waiting for the start code to arrive“.

Who responds to the Digital Census?

The INE reports that “a person of legal age, will be responsible for the rest of the members“, but that” it is also an opportunity for all of them to do it together.

They may choose to carry out the digital censusall people who reside in private homes and have a meter of UTE enabled“.

The digital census modality does not apply in the following cases:

  • collective housing (hotel, boarding house or other lodging house, hospital or sanatorium, residence for the elderly and students, laborers’ house, religious boarding school, penitentiary establishment, care and protection homes, military or police headquarters, shelter, non-prison rehabilitation center with permanent hospitalization).
  • Private dwellings with two or more households (that is to say, when groups of people reside who have separate expenses for their food and, therefore, each one of them forms a household).
  • Private homes without a meter of UTE enabled.
  • commercial premises, educational or others where there are no persons habitually residing there.
  • Homeless people.
