But now everything is ready for a spectacle on Sunday (9.30 p.m. CET, live on ORF 1). Before the fifth round of the season, Dutchman Max Verstappen is only six points ahead of his Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez. The fight for the title has been monotonous so far, but the racing team wants to bring color into the game with adapted paintwork and colorful stripes on the car.

The duo has won two Grand Prix so far, most recently in Azerbaijan Perez won. The Mexican wants to make another statement in the internal duel. “Anyone who sits in this incredible car and doesn’t want to be world champion has the wrong attitude,” said the 33-year-old, who appears to be a street circuit expert. He has already won in Baku in 2021, in Monaco in 2022, in Singapore in 2022 and this year in Jeddah. In Miami, a temporary racetrack is set up around the Miami Dolphins’ Hard Rock Stadium.

“It will definitely not be easy,” warned Verstappen. However, the 25-year-old meant above all the challenges posed by the fast track at up to 340 km/h, as well as the weather in Florida with temperatures up to or above 30 degrees. After the drivers criticized the surface a year ago, it was renewed. None of this should change anything about Red Bull’s position as the favourite. Only after that, at the European start on May 21 in Imola, can major updates be expected from the challengers. “We have not yet met our own expectations,” admitted Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff.
