He Central Bank of Uruguay (BCU) will hire research economists to try to figure out why there is a perception that Uruguay it’s a “expensive country” This Thursday a meeting was held with the president Diego Labat and the manager of Economic Research, Jorge Ponceto advance in this direction.

The highest financial institution in the country opened a call in which it specified that it will advance in the contracting of up to five jobs “to identify the factors that determine significant differences between key prices of goods and services and their valuation for the economy”.

In this way, the BCU will try to “understand what is true in the perception that Uruguay is an expensive country.”

The conditions for the presentation of investigations before the BCU

The works presented and approved by the institution must identify the factors in question, from which their effects on the well-being of individuals will be quantified. In this sense, he clarified that they will contemplate those proposals that aim at the “reduction of price differences”.

“The final product must be original and overcome already discussed arguments with respect to exchange rate misalignments or the surplus of exporters”, clarified the Central Bank.

In turn, the institution directed by Labat clarified that these works will have to have as theoretical framework the law of one price and, in addition, they must “direct their efforts to study the reasons why it is not fulfilled for relatively long periods.”

In the meeting yesterday, Thursday, May 4, in the afternoon, Labat and Ponce explained to the interested parties the purpose and scope of the tender, in which they will accept inquiries and request for extension bid opening until 3:00 p.m. next Monday, May 15 to the mail box [email protected].

The opening of offersmeanwhile, will be Wednesday May 31 at 3:00 p.m.and investigations may be submitted on the State Purchases website.
