The Broad Front proposes a UTE social tariff

He Broad Front (FA) presented to the board of directors joint venture a proposal for the Residential Basic Consumption Tariff (TCB) is accessible to retirees who earn the minimum and students who receive scholarships from the Solidarity Fund.

“36% of households have already lost this rate”, going on to pay double for the same consumption since December 2021, the FA representative on the UTE board said in her proposal, fernanda cardona. It applied to Stable monthly consumption of 230 KWh or less.

The Residential Basic Consumption Tariff was modified again last year and, since then, the possibility of entry for new users has been eliminated. It is only available to those who already had it contracted.

“Considering that a household that spends more than 10% of its income on energy is in energy poverty and the weight that electrical energy has in the set of energy used by the home, we understand that, for households up to the second decile income, the removal of the TCB implies further increasing the number of households in a situation of energy poverty in Uruguay,” said Cardona.

It should be remembered that Uruguay has the most expensive electricity in the region, both residential and industrial, which cost US$285/MWh and US$136/MWH. Only in April, moreover, UTE had to import 29% of the electricity from Brazil as a consequence of the impact on hydroelectric power generation due to the drought.

Fixed rate to control electricity spending

UTE launched a fixed fee to pay the electricity bill whose objective is, according to the state company, to contribute to improving the planning of the home economy no increases in bills during the months where a more intensive use of heating and cooling equipment is made in homes.

The Fixed Fee is available for those who currently have a fee Residential Simple, Double Hours and Triple Hours; and, in addition, they meet the following requirements: have no debt with UTE or confirmed irregularity in the previous year; have a minimum seniority of 12 months in that service; have no bonus Social Bonus; and have a single active Electric Service agreement in the UTE account.

To move forward with the implementation of this new product, the company published on its website a simulator which can be accessed with the document number of the holder of the service or the account number of the service. Through this simulator, it is possible to find out how much the fixed monthly amount to pay would be for a period of one year, and request the product if desired.
