The Martini Beton site in St. Martin was extensively modernized within five years. The heart of the ready-mixed concrete plant is the innovative photovoltaic façade system, which is one of the largest in Austria. “Innovative companies are particularly important partners in the energy transition in Upper Austria. Martini Beton proves this with its exemplary Mühlviertler Solar Tower here in St. Martin,” said Provincial Councilor Markus Achleitner on the occasion of the opening celebrations.

Use all potential

“We have to use all potential when implementing the energy transition – especially when it comes to generating electricity from photovoltaics: Here, roof areas have absolute priority for us, followed by areas that have already been built up, such as parking lots and PV open-space systems on polluted areas such as heaps, landfills, fallow or traffic areas. With the PV façade system, another chapter has now been opened in the use of company buildings to generate electricity from solar power. This project was therefore also supported by the state with funds from the energy contracting funding program,” said Achleitner.

With the opening, Martini Beton finalized the modernization of the entire site, which had lasted for several years. In particular, it included the enlargement of the company areas, a viable access road in cooperation with the neighboring community, the consideration of a new concept for draining off the surface water and a complete redesign of all company areas. “By producing ready-mixed concrete with solar power, Martini Beton is making an active contribution to achieving environmental goals,” said Martini-Beton Managing Director Armin Richter. The new photovoltaic façade system is also the basis for future developments at the site – such as a “electricity filling station” or a completely new construction of the heating system of the industrial plant.

The system covers an area of ​​more than 1200 m² and has an output of around 182 kWp (kilowatt peak). The special glass-glass modules – made in Austria – set the martini-concrete tower in the limelight with their anthracite-colored design. The PV facade saves around 30 tons of CO2 per year and generates more than 128,000 kWh of solar power annually.
