The incident happened in the city of Braunau at the end of April. Due to tactical reasons, the police only released information now. At around 4:45 p.m. on April 27, a civilian patrol from the Braunau criminal investigation team noticed a car parked in a supermarket parking lot, the driver was waiting in the vehicle. Shortly thereafter, officers observed a second vehicle coming and the driver of the parked car getting into the vehicle. The two men were in the vehicle, police said. After a few minutes, the man got out and drove away in his car. Because of the suspicious behavior, the officers carried out a driver and vehicle check. They discovered that the driver did not have a valid driver’s license. During a voluntary check in the man’s car, the police officers found a CO2 weapon in the glove compartment (Note d. Red.: CO2 weapons use compressed carbon dioxide to fire projectiles), as well as a small amount of crystalmeth (methamphetamine) and cannabis.

The driver, a 45-year-old from Braunau, stated that he had just imported methamphetamine from Germany to Austria and had consumed some of it with the second driver, a 45-year-old from Helpfau-Uttendorf. Because of the admitted drug impairment, the man was brought for a clinical examination. This confirmed the impairment. Both men are reported to the Ried public prosecutor.
