At a ceremony last Monday, Governor Thomas Stelzer and Diocesan Bishop Manfred Scheuer honored the six winners of this year’s Eduard Ploier Prize for development cooperation and the winner of the Eduard Ploier Journalist Prize for their commitment. The prize is awarded every two years by the diocese of Linz together with the state of Upper Austria in honor of Eduard Ploier, director of the educational center Schloss Puchberg.

“We honor people who put their hearts and energy into the service of development aid,” said Stelzer. For Bishop Scheuer, development aid is “a turning away from the thinking of past centuries”. A total of 28 projects were submitted for this year’s award ceremony.

This year’s award winners included the association “Guardian Hand Project” from Vöcklabruck, which works to help needy children in the Philippines. The ARGE school partnership of the HTL Braunau was also honored for two development projects in Uganda and Nicaragua. Johann Eiber from Oftering and Franz Schobesberger from Brunnenthal received the Lifetime Achievement Award.
